Technical Architect – Mobile (McLean, VA)

mPortal Inc.seeks a Mobile Technical Architect with significant experience in delivering mobile applications.  The Mobile Technical Architect position shall be an integral part of the Customer Delivery Team, based out of mPortal’s corporate headquarters in McLean, VA. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, and demonstrate high levels of initiative and creativity.  He or she will have significant experience managing large, cross-functional teams, and in working with Fortune 500 customers and associated vendors to provide cutting-edge, industry-leading mobile solutions. Experience working with media companies will be a significant advantage.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Customer Project Manager, the Mobile Technical Architect will be the primary technical liaison with the customer for all technical aspects of the project including technical integration requirements and technical architecture. The Mobile Technical Consultant will understand the customer goals, requirements and timelines, and work with multiple internal mPortal teams to determine an acceptable delivery plan and timeline, while providing the bridge between the customer and associated mPortal- internal teams. Key job responsibilities include the folling items:

  • Define the overall technical architecture for the mobile application that is being envisioned with the customer.
  • Define the technical requirements for the implementation of the mobile solution.
  • Discuss with the customer technical aspects of the mobile application solution architecture, including technology used, methodology followed, and devices selected.
  • Prepare technical solution and architecture presentations for the customer.


Experience Requirements:

The ideal candidate has acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (advanced degree a plus), and has demonstrated technical consulting experience in previous mobile consulting/delivery roles.  Key expectations include:

  • 5+ years of technical consulting/delivery experience
  • 2+ years of implementing/delivering mobile projects
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of successfully leading mid-to-large-scale projects in one or more of the following areas:  Handset platform implementation, wireless content systems implementation, mobile applications implementation, mobile internet portal implementation.
  • Exposure to one or more of the following mobile platform/environments: Windows Mobile, Android, iPhone, Blackberry and HTML5.
  • Good working knowledge of Java-based server technologies and different emerging frameworks.
  • Good understanding and knowledge in Mobile Application development, as well as experience working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 mobile network operators, and media companies.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.  Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and in multiple situations and settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess the ability to analyze requirements and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Must be self-starter, proactive and willing to learn & grow with the business.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must demonstrate a hands-on, proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Must be willing to travel 75% of the time to the customer and partner location(s).
