Description:

mPortal is looking for a Philadelphia or Washington DC-area based Java Technical Architect with excellent client-facing skills.  Reporting to mPortal’s VP of Strategic Accounts, the Java Technical Architect will oversee a team of developers based in McLean, VA, and mPortal’s India office in Bangalore.  This individual will also assist in technical sales activities.

This individual should be proficient with Java J2EE technologies, and have a strong understanding of web services architectures (including REST, JSON, and MVC frameworks).  The individual should have a strong familiarity with Linux administration and development, as well as enterprise architectures related to JMS and Oracle databases.  The individual should be comfortable working in a distributed environment, and working with off-shore development teams. 

The Technical Architect will be responsible for designing and, as necessary, developing mobile solutions for mPortal’s customers.  The individual must be comfortable with working with clients, as 50% of this role will involve working directly with the customer, working on-site at the customer premises.

Experience Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (advanced degree a plus), have worked for a big consulting or systems integration company significant technical experience in previous mobile projects and a proven track record for leading or supporting technical sales activities.  Key expectations include:

• 8+ years of Java development.
• 3+ years experience working with Linux, JMS, Oracle, and/or Web Services architectures
• 3+ experience working for a big Consulting or Systems Integration company (ex. Accenture, CSC, PWC, IBM, Sun)
• Sound technical knowledge on one or more of the following mobile platform/environments: Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian, BREW, Java ME, Palm OS, or Linux.
• Good understanding and knowledge about Mobile Application development and experience working with wireless carriers and/or cable operators
• Experience in working as a sales engineer a plus, but not required
• Ability to effectively present information to team members and management
• Excellent Team building, people and management skills
• Exceptional organization skills & attention to detail
• Must be self-starter, proactive and willing to learn & grow with the business
• Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must demonstrate hands on approach
